BL: You call yourself a ‘Confidence Crusader’. How did you discover your passion for helping women build and boost their confidence?

AK: I’ve been a professional photographer since 2007 but I began my confidence crusade in 2013 when I was introduced to the work of one of the world’s leading women’s portrait photographers – Sue Bryce.

I bought several of her online courses and began implementing her techniques. These included photographing women in my bedroom using only natural light. Not only did the physical transformation of the women astound me, but the internal transformation as well.

“9 times out of 10 women, arrived at a shoot already pointing out their flaws or pointing out how they’re not photogenic”

After showing them their photo on the back of the camera, I began to see the internal shift. They suddenly saw themselves differently and spoke about themselves differently. I eventually realised that I didn’t just give women pretty pictures of themselves, I gave them their confidence.

That’s when I immersed myself in the topic of confidence. Like why women are so self-critical. How we can grow and cultivate our confidence. And what role confidence plays in business and life success. I then created an online course called Conscious Confidence, which helps women recognise and develop their confidence on a mind, body and soul level.

BL: Incredible! I’ve read the book ‘Creative Visualisation’ by Shakti Gawain – and know of the power of using my mind to create and manifest a more successful reality for myself. Can you tell our BossLadies why Guided Visualisations are so powerful for success?

AK: The impact of the practice of visualisation comes down to the sensory experience of feeling what it feels like to be that version of yourself that you long to be. It’s about seeing past your current circumstances and opening up to the possibilities of what you’re able to achieve for yourself.

Visualisation is both a spiritual practice as well as a scientific practice, because it’s a tool used in models like NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). It’s been proven that we can change the programming in our mind and we can create the reality we desire through our imagination. Once equipped with the positive feelings of the visualisation, we’re then more likely to take the action today that will create what we desire tomorrow. My guided visualisations help women tap into the mind confidence, their body confidence and their soul confidence. I give them something to listen to every day that begins to change the way they define themselves.

BL: What are the top 3 books that have inspired your path to mind, body and soul confidence?

AK: Oh, I couldn’t choose just 3! They are:

  1. Law of Emergence by Derek Rydall
  2. Little Voice Mastery by Blair Singer
  3. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olsen
  4. Goddesses in Everywoman by Jean Shinola Bolen
  5. The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

BL: What is the most useful mindset/ attitude to use when creating a life you will love?

AK: There are 2 that I love using.Try to be as conscious in each moment as possible by quietening the mind and using all your senses to soak up the present moment.

I also love using the vision of my future self as a yardstick for any decisions or actions I take in the present moment. I ask myself –

What would my future-self thank me for?

Confidence Crusader, Abigail K

BL: Tell us about a time when you’ve had to rise from a failure?

AK: One of the biggest shifts I experienced was the period in 2015/2016. That’s when I decided to begin my Confidence Crusade. At the time I was wedding and portrait photographer doing small events. An opportunity came about for me to attend a 2-day portrait photography workshop in Paris. I couldn’t afford the workshop, airfare or accommodation. I really felt pushed to do this workshop, so I took a leap of faith to make it happen. As soon as I did, the magic started. The money started showing up, and eventually I made it to Paris. While in Paris, I experienced so many *epiphanies and I came back a changed girl. That’s when I started taking massively inspired action, and I haven’t stopped since. The lesson is – you have to take the first step. The universe will then demonstrate its support.

An epiphany is a moment of sudden and great revelation or realisation

BL: Please tell us about 1 woman who has used this course to boost her life?

AK: One of my members that thanked me for the Conscious Confidence course said that it opened her eyes to the depth of her lack of confidence. It made her aware. Awareness is ALWAYS the first step in making a change. As a result of doing the course, she went on to get professional help and is progressing well.

BL: What’s the most exciting project you’ve just completed or are currently involved in?

Abigail K

AK: I’ve just come back from a nation-wide speaking tour for the ShZen brand. This is a direct marketing skin care range.  I’m continuing with the writing of my book, and there’s a couple of film projects on the go! One of them is a documentary I’m featured in about women in the arts in Africa.

BL: What legacy are you leaving for other women?

I believe that every woman has an obligation not only to herself but to the women in her life to show up in this world as her most confident self. This world could do with more feminine input, influence and impact and confidence is the key to helping women show up in a more significant way. I know that my portrait work and my online course help women see themselves in a more positive light and as each one of them shines their light, they inspire other women to do the same.
