Your thoughts become things

THOUGHTS BECOME THINGS. YOU’VE HEARD THE PHRASE, AND YOU SORT OF GET IT. HERE’S HOW TO OWN IT, #BOSSLADY STYLE

Thoughts become things. My word is my wand. These may sound like New Agey hoo ha, but in truth they are age old wisdoms, that we can tap into for a more joyful, consciously-created #BossLady life.

The truth is, the thoughts and words, that we consistently repeat, reflect themselves as the situations and experiences that we have in our lives.  Biblically, Jesus said, Ask and it is Given.

The only problem is that we are doing it unconsciously, rather than consciously, as it was intended. When we use words like, I’m too broke, I can’t stand it, they make me sick –  we are asking, and asking and asking … and it is being given.

The most powerful way to create change is to start by noticing, so, for now, let’s just run a little experiment of noticing.

1.Think about the top three things in your life you find stressful right now.

Which thoughts are you giving your attention to?
Focus on one area of stress for you right now

It’s best not to spread yourself too thin initially, even though you may want to tackle all your stressful areas at once and be done with them.

So, for the purpose of this experiment, just choose one of these areas of stress to pay attention to for the next two to three days.

It could be an issue at work, the debt that you have, a relationship stress or a health matter. You will know what it is, a stressful situation usually shouts quite loudly.

2. Think about this area of stress, and check in with your body.

Notice where you feel the stress in your body

Where do you feel it in your body? Which areas are tightening up? How are you breathing when you focus on this stressful situation? What is happening to your thoughts? How are you feeling? Which emotions are strongest?

Now, remember that this is an experiment of noticing. So there’s no need to analyse what is going on for you, just make a note of what is happening physically, mentally and emotionally.

3. For now, let the thought go, and carry on with your day.

Make a note every time you return your thoughts or conversation to this stressful area. You will now find it easier to notice when you have returned to this stressful thought because you have spent some time identifying the reactions that your body and mind have when you focus on this area. As soon as you catch yourself talking or thinking about this stressful matter, be sure to jot it down.

4. Look back at your notes after two or three days and assess YOUR THOUGHTS.

Count how many times your thoughts and words have returned to this area of stress? More than ten times each day over the past two or three days?

“ARE YOU BEGINNING TO SEE THAT, JUST MAYBE, YOUR THINKING IS SOMEHOW HOLDING YOUR STRESSFUL SITUATION TIGHT?”

Thankfully, in just the same way that this unconscious thought pattern keeps the stressful situation with you a lot longer than it needs to, a positive, conscious thought, repeated regularly, has the same power, if not more, to create a stress free and joyful situation.

 

 

 

 

Whenever you notice your thoughts returning to a stressful place use a positive catch phrase to immediately halt the stress creating thought.

I will cover some of the techniques for instilling positive thought discipline in upcoming articles. For now, you can create your own positive phrase that resonates with you, or adapt one of these powerful statements.
